Home Battery Storage

We want you to get the most out of your solar panel system if you are going to make the transition. That means considering a Home Battery Storage System.

A home battery storage system is typically connected to both the grid and to your home's electric panel to perform two main functions:

Charging

Means that you can store power generated by your home rooftop solar panel system or from the grid when electricity prices are lower – to be used at a later time.

Discharging

Means that you can use the energy stored by your battery to power your home when the price of electricity from the grid is more expensive or at night when your rooftop solar system isn’t producing or during an outage when you need backup power.

It's very important to consider outages, especially in California.

During an outage: pairing your home battery storage with your rooftop solar can enable you to recharge during the day with sufficient sunshine and extend your home backup power for potentially multiple days. How long your system will provide backup power depends on your battery size, critical energy needs, if you have a rooftop solar system, and weather conditions.

A Home Battery Storage system paired with a rooftop solar system can help you get the most savings under Net Energy Metering and optimize your carbon reduction impacts.

At Vertex Electric Sun., we help you choose the right size system for your home and install your system safely to your needs. We program the battery to provide electricity during times that best fit you and your family’s needs like during an outage and/or to save you money. Our team of licensed experts will show you how the battery works and answer any questions you may have.

FAQ’s and Common Questions

How does my solar battery need to be stored?

Your solar battery is still a battery. Regardless of the brand and type of battery, your solar battery should be stored within a temperature range of 34-120 degrees F and free from condensation, icing, and direct sunlight. Avoid storing your solar battery in a place with excessive dust or oily mist.

Are solar batteries capable of powering an entire house?

Yes. At Vertex Electric Sun., we will use a battery to power your entire home depending on the total load size and appliance types.

Are there tax incentives and rebates for solar batteries?

Yes. Speak with someone on our finance team today about the best incentives and rebates for you. There is a Self-Generation Incentive Program in California as well as the Federal ITC when a battery storage solution is installed with a qualifying solar rooftop energy system.

Will getting a solar battery be enough for me to gain independence from the grid?

Most batteries will power both the main panel and the backup circuit when the grid is on. When the grid goes down, only the backup panel is powered and the main panel is cut off by the automatic transfer switch in the inverter.

Will my solar panels continue to charge my home during an outage?

When the system is off, most batteries will not be able to charge the battery during the event of a blackout. For homeowners that need protection against an outage that may last for multiple days there are battery backup systems that have an island capability. These backup solutions like a microgrid can provide capabilities for homeowners looking for long term outage independence from the grid.
